TDA students awarded at Eco Awards hosted by PECT

On the 25th May, 6 students from Year 5 and Year 7 attended the Eco awards at the new Anglia Ruskin University building.  Every year, Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) host the Eco Awards Day to celebrate the eco focused work of selected schools across Peterborough and TDA have been invited to attend for the last two years.

This year, the students took part in a wild bird conservation talk, seed bomb making session, pot making and bean planting. A highlight of the day was taking part in a V.R headset session with Virador, a large company in Peterborough who transform domestic and commercial waste and recyclables into high-quality raw materials and energy.

While visiting our displays, the judges from several companies in Peterborough took time to chat to the students about the work we do at TDA and our future plans to become more ecologically friendly. They were so impressed by all of the students however, one in particular stood out because of his confidence and commitment to the cause, Daniel Giemza (year 7) impressed the judges so much that they singled him out during the award ceremony speeches when they announced we had won the Milestone Special award for our overall commitment to eco development.

The judges said "We were extremely impressed by the knowledge and enthusiasm shown by students who represented Thomas Deacon Academy at the event. The students should be extremely proud of themselves, and I hope that this helps to encourage them to proceed with both current and future ventures at your school."

We came back to TDA/J feeling victorious clutching a beautiful trophy, certificate and £200 voucher to spend on an outdoor project.
